Rajahmundry is one of the oldest and major cities of Andhra Pradesh. It lies along the banks of river Godavari, in East Godavari district. It is a historical city with cultural background and hence it is also called “Cultural Capital of Andhra Pradesh”. In earlier days, it was called “ Rajamahendravaram”, as it was ruled by the Chalukya king Raja Raja Narendra around 1022 AD.

 Rail cum Road Bridge Rajahmundry Rail cum Road Bridge
The Rail cum Road Bridge is the second longest bridge in India locally called Kovvur bridge as it connects Rajahmundry city with Kovvur town. Its railway station is one of the important stations in Andhra Pradesh, along the Howrah-Chennai line. Rajahmundry Airport is located 18 km from the heart of the city, situated near Madhurapudi.


Rajahmundry Pushkar Ghat  Ghats
There are many ghats along the banks of river Godavari which is the biggest attractions of the city Rajahmundry. It is a city with number of temples like the Kotilingalu (1 crore sivalingalu) on the bank of river Godavari.

The city hosts “Pushkaralu”, the holy congregations held once in 12 years. It is considered auspicious to take sin-ridding holy dips where around 30 million people take bath coming from all around the world.

Nannaya  Nannaya
Nannaya, popularly known as “Adi Kavi”, was considered as the city-born poet of Rajahmundry who translated the Sanskrit version of Mahabaratam into Telugu along with Tikkana and Yerrana. Hence, Rajahmundry is renowned as the birthplace of the Telugu language.

Sri Kandukuri Veeresalingam Pantulu popularly called “Gadya Tikkana”, a social reformer of Andhra Pradesh also born in Rajamahendravaram, on April 16, 1848, who fought for education for women and remarriage of widows. He started a monthly journal, Vivekavardhini to point out and criticize the defects in the society. He was also one of the members of the first Indian National Congress meeting held in 1885.
