Dowleswaram barrage Car Accident: At the early hours of 13th June 2015, twenty two people – nine women, seven children and six men belonging to the same family died when ‘Toofan’ jeep in which they were travelling bang into the railing on Dowleswaram Barrage and fell into the reservoir.

The deceased were identified as Eegala Ramana, Venkat, Raju, Seenamma, Rambabu, Kondatalli, Prasad, Kanaka, Kosamma, Apparao (driver of the van), Gopi, Sai, Poorna, Namit, Karthik, Navya, Sandhya and Pavan natives of Mosaipeta Village, Achutapuram Mandal of Visakhapatnam district.
Police said, the deceased were observed in the river by the fishermen at the early hours and received a call from one of the morning walkers on the Barrage at 5:45am who informed about the incident.
As there are no equipments to turn the jeep in which the passengers were crammed, police with the help of fishermen without damaging the van pulled out the bodies’ one after the other. They have observed two children were alive and immediately rushed them to the nearest hospital in which of the children (girl child) died while treatment is going on.
The only survivor of this mishap is a 10 –year old boy Eegala Kiran is being treated in a hospital, who is the grandson of Appa Rao. Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinna Rajappa reached the spot.
Inspector Sivajirao said, the family is returning from a pilgrimage to Tirupati and other places and had left home nearly a week back in the hired vehicle. All the bodies were shifted to government hospital in Rajahmundry for post-mortem.
